onedrive_move_file

OneDrive · macOS · Windows

Effect: write (strongest supported action). Status: gated.

Gated means the tool requires an installed app, a connected account, permission, or runtime availability. Check those requirements on the listed platform before using it.

macOS

Purpose

Moves or renames a file or folder inside the OneDrive folder synced on this Mac; OneDrive syncs the change to the cloud. Source and destination must both be inside OneDrive. If the destination is an existing folder, the item is moved INTO it and keeps its name. Never overwrites: it fails if something already exists at the destination. Creates missing parent folders of the destination. Called without confirm it returns a preview; pass confirm=true to move.

Required inputs

Permissions and confirmation

Explicit confirmation parameter: inspect the schema and tool description before any real call. The documentation example keeps confirm false. Obtain user authorization before performing the action.

Windows

Purpose

Moves or renames one file or folder on the local disk. It renames the local path and never calls the OneDrive service. Both paths must be inside a OneDrive folder (onedrive_root lists them): anything else is refused with or without confirm, and so is a OneDrive folder itself as the source. `destination` is the full new path including the new name, not the folder to move into. A source that does not exist, and a destination that is already taken by a file or a folder, are refused with or without confirm, and nothing is replaced. Without confirm=true nothing moves: the call returns a preview that echoes both paths. With confirm=true, missing parent folders of the destination are created and the item is moved. There is no undo; to revert, move it back.
